Tuesday, 11 March 2008
Thursday, 06 March 2008 The Newlyn Pier and Harbour Revision Order published today could lead to an increase in the number of harbour commissioners running the port. A new board could be appointed this year.

The Harbour Revision Order document, which authorises the board to appoint an advisory group, has been drafted to bring the harbour commission into line with the government's guidelines for good governance.

The 2000 Guide to Good Governance states that all trust port boards should contain an appropriate balance of skills to control the port effectively and provide it with leadership, motivation and strategic direction.

The document will now go through a 42-day consultation period.

A copy is available for inspection from the harbour office in Newlyn on 01736 362523 or the Department of Transport on 0207 944 8300.

Andrew Munson, harbourmaster and clerk to the commissioners, said the harbour commissioners have been negotiating with the Department of Transport for several years and are pleased the draft Harbour Revision Order document has now been approved.
